40 km from Phnom Penh, on the western shore of Tonle Sap, discover the historical site of Oudong, royal residence and Cambodia’s capital for more than 250 years until 1866. A monumental royal necropolis of sovereigns of several centuries is scattered on top of two hills. The largest houses three stupas of different eras. The other exhibits the remains of Pagoda Preah Atharas. A majestic Buddhist monastery was built at the feet of the hills. The site offers a breathtaking overview on authentic Cambodian countryside, from small villages and ricefields to the Tonle Sap River.
